Two workers who were seriously injured in an electrical accident Wednesday are on the mend after being treated at North Carolina hospitals.

Randy Harrelson was transported to Nash General Hospital, treated and released.

Jack Lawrence White was taken by helicopter to the Jaycee Burn Center at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

Director of Rocky Mount Utilities Richard Worsinger said White is doing well.

“The hospital let his wife spend the night with him and that is a good sign,” he said. “He has been sitting up and talking. I think he is on the road to recovery.”

Worsinger said the accident has reiterated his focus on safety with his own employees.

“I met with all my employees to review the accident,” he said. “I emphasized with them to follow all safety rules and make sure safety comes first in all they do.”

He said although the accident still is being reviewed, it was likely caused by electricity being conducted through the steel utility pole the crews were installing Wednesday near North Wesleyan Boulevard and Old Mill Road.

“I don’t know if we’ll ever know for sure though,” he said.

Worsinger said his thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of both workers.

“We are truly glad that Mr. Harrelson was treated and released,” he said. “We are also glad to hear that Mr. White is doing well and on the road to recovery.”
