If you have suffered an injury at work or on the job, you may be entitled to receive additional benefits through workers compensation. In North Carolina, this may include time lost from work, disability (full or partial), and medical bills.
N.C. hikes workers’ compensation rates
Workers’ insurance-compensation rates will increase in North Carolina, effective April 11, according to the office of N.C. Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin.
Rates will go up 0.6 percent in the voluntary market and 4.1 percent in the assigned-risk, or pooled, market.
The N.C. Rate Bureau, which provides services and programs for the insurance industry in North Carolina, had requested hikes of 1.2 percent for the voluntary market and 5.5 percent for the assigned-risk category. The bureau was created by the N.C. General Assembly.
By holding the line in negotiations in the voluntary market, Goodwin says, N.C. companies will save an estimated $7 million.
In 2009, Goodwin ordered a 9.6 percent decrease to the workers’ compensation voluntary loss costs and no change to the assigned-risk markets.
