Proposed Workers' Comp Rate Increase
If you have suffered an injury at work or on the job, you may be entitled to receive additional benefits through workers compensation. In North Carolina, this may include time lost from work, disability (full or partial), and medical bills. RALEIGH -- The N.C. Department of Insurance said yesterday that it has received the 2010 workers' compensation rate filings from the N.C. Rate Bureau, which represents the state's workers' compensation insurance companies.
The filings ask for an average increase of 1.2 percent in loss costs for the voluntary market and an average increase of 5.5 percent in the assigned-risk markets.
According to state laws, the department has 60 days to review the filing before making a decision. The filings are available at http://pserff.ncdoi.net/pc.html.
In 2009, Commissioner Wayne Goodwin ordered a 9.6 percent decrease to the workers' compensation voluntary loss costs and no change to the assigned risk markets, which saved businesses about $119 million.
