GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. -- A man in his early 20s fell off Bald Rock in northern Greenville County on Monday evening.
According to emergency personnel the victim fell about 100 feet as he tried walking down the face of Bald Rock.
The victim suffered multiple compound fractures and a head injury, according to first responders on the scene.
Emergency workers said the man was knocked unconscious from the fall, but did regain consciousness before being airlifted to Greenville Memorial Hospital.
Personnel from River Falls Fire Department in South Carolina, and Cedar Mountain Fire Department in North Carolina responded.
Bald Rock is located off Geer Highway near the North Carolina-South Carolina state line inside Caesar's Head State Park.
According to southcarolinaparks.com, Bald Rock has an elevation of 1,709 feet at its peak.
The man's name and condition have not been released.
Greenville County Deputy Coroner Karie Cain said the coroner's office was called because of the level of trauma, but the man seemed to be doing well and she expected him to survive.
