Contractor Fined For Worker's Death At Beaufort Co. Bridge Site
Last November a construction worker was killed when he was run over by a dump truck at the Highway 99 bridge site in Beaufort County.
A paving contractor has been cited and fined after a worker was killed last fall when a dump truck over him.
The North Carolina Department of Labor has fined Rose Brothers Paving of Ahoskie $3,500. Charles Barnes of Murfreesboro was killed while working on the Highway 99 bridge project over Pungo Creek in Beaufort County.
At the time the Highway Patrol said the 57-year-old man did not hear the backup alarm of the dump truck because there was a lot of noise. In its citation, the Labor Department says Rose did not equip the truck with an alarm that was loud enough.
The contractor had until today to either pay the fine, request an informal conference with the Labor Department, or contest the fine. So far there's no word yet on what the company decided to do.
